bet365 recently made our 1st Annual Awards of 2011 and now the founder Denise Coates, has been recognised in the New Year’s Honours list by being appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

The CBE, is one of five distinctions in the civil and military Order of the British Empire gild of chivalry that has been awarded since 1917 to British citizens in recognition of success in business, community, politics, science or popular culture.

Denise Coates is the daughter of Stoke City chairman Peter Coates.

Dad Peter, who provided financial support for the launch of bet365, said, “We are all delighted and all proud of her.

“She has done an absolutely amazing job for bet365, building it up from scratch.

Denise says of her honour, “It’s not something that you receive everyday. “It’s quite humbling as well because I’m just not convinced that it’s totally deserved. I know there’s an awful lot of people up and down the country who do some amazing work who are probably a lot more deserving that I am.”

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis said, “Everyone associated with Stoke City is indebted to Denise and delighted at this fully deserved honour.”

Denise started bet365 in a portable building in a car park in 2000, but since then it has grown into Stoke-on-Trent’s biggest private sector employer, providing work for 900 people in the city.

The company, based in Festival Park, also owns Stoke City, with much of the club’s recent success flowing from a £50 million investment.
