Anti-UIGEA Bill Finally Gets Hearing Scheduled
In December of 2009 Congressman from Massachusetts, Barney Frank, proposed bill HR 2267 in an attempt to give a solution to the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).
However, the bill had been in a limbo since that day as there had not been any stops taken towards making it come into effect. As the UIGEA came into effect on June 1st of 2010, more and more online gambling supporters got more worried and wondered if the bill would ever become effective.
Recently, it was announced that the House Financial Services Committee has finally scheduled a hearing for HR 2267 and it will take place on July 21st. It will be a half day hearing and no list of witnesses has been released yet, so the agenda is still a big question mark.
Meanwhile, some are hopeful that the hearing will be one more step towards the legalization and regulation of online gambling but some others are not entirely sure that this will happen as there has not been a mark up scheduled, which means that another hearing needs to be scheduled to get a vote.
Personally, I am more worried that Orly six new supporters have signed on in 2010 which leads me to think that support of the bill is at its maximum and it is not enough. We will keep you updated on the issue.
