2010 World Cup Causes Losses for Online Gambling Sites
Online gambling company Party Gaming announced that they have suffered a reduction in online gambling revenue during 2010 and they believe that this is a result of the 2010 World Cup.
The company expected quarter-on-quarter figures to be down between 11%-13% in euros, which equates to 15%-17% in dollars.
Party Gaming representatives said that they are losing revenue “with the number of daily average players expected to fall by between 8% and 9% versus the first quarter, coupled with lower yields due to reduced frequency of play on the back of both seasonality and the World Cup.”
The site is also undergoing problems with the new licensing regime for players in Italy which is expected to be in place until the fourth quarter of this year.
On the bright side, PartyPoker.fr just got their online gambling license in France and started functioning on the site on July 1st.
As I write this article I am watching the Uruguay vs. Netherlands World Cup match and I can absolutely understand why players have stepped away from their computers to watch the intense action. However, the World Cup will be over soon and the online gambling industry will get their revenue in place again.
