California online gamblingWe all expected that California would be the one state in the United States to legalize online gambling. However, the state’s legislature decided to kill the legislation proposed to regulate online gambling.

The opposition in California managed to make some of the Senators nervous and they decided to remove the bill from consideration until a full investigation is carried on to go through various claims made by the local tribes.

As the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) became implemented, states can now decide within themselves if they want to regulate online gambling. If this was the case, the banking industry is not required to process gambling transactions.

Official data has shown that over one million California residents gamble online and this could bring over $2 billion in extra revenue for the state of California. The issue that concerns the native tribes and makes then oppose online gambling is because they feel it threatens their income potential and that could take away jobs at land-based casinos.

If the new legislation is to be approved in California it would have to set up legal online gambling within the state but it would have to make it a misdemeanor offense to gamble at a casino outside of the state.
