China again cracking down on internet websites

China is at it again with their special brand of internet website crackdowns according to a government spokesperson in comments made Monday.

It was not clear who the government is going after but China has a history of going after political, human rights groups and websites supporting Tibet or any other site that they consider a threat to their communist government.

The latest effort will most likley go after porn and online gambling websites, said Wang Chen who is the chief of cabinets information office.

“We will strengthen the blocking of harmful information from outside China to prevent harmful information from being disseminated in China and withstand online penetration by overseas hostile forces,” Wang was quoted as saying.

In April, three people who posted material online about the death of a pregnant woman in police custody were sentenced to prison by a court in southern China. They were convicted of slander.
